Slab on Ubuntu
The new Gnome Menu originally developed by Novell for SLED, codenamed “the slab”, is now available to Ubuntu users. I got this one from the Edgy Eft Development forum. The deb itself is available from QuinnStorm’s XGL/Compiz repos. Special thanks to Viper550 and QuinnStorm for hacking and packaging it.
The package name should be gnome-main-menu (I’m running version 0.6.2-0quinn5). After installation, right click on your gnome-panel, add to panel and select Main Menu from the Miscellaneous section, not the one in the Utilities section.
I think the fonts looks a bit off, don’t know why. Also the menu feels a bit slow to load. But then, Edgy Eft is still months ahead. Enough time for this to get polished.
While this is still a community effort, things are starting to get more interesting.
