Access .mdb files on Linux
MDB Tools is a set of utilities for accessing MS Access (duh) .mdb files on Linux. One of its most important feature is the ability to export the data into various database engines including, but not limited to, MySQL, Postgres and Oracle. It also packs you a nice (gtk based) graphical interface for your clicking pleasure. You can find a nice tutorial on using mdbtools at the Oracle website.
To fellow Ubuntu users: The mdbtools package is available in the Ubuntu repositories, so installation would be pretty much painles. Just install mdbtools via Synaptic or run apt-get install mdbtools (you probably need to enable Universe).
So yes people, it is _very_ easy to migrate your old MS Access based database to non-ms database engines. Have fun!
Please take note that MDB Tools currently exports .mdb data into CSV (text) files. But It can export the schema (DDL) to other database engiens. Converting the CSV data into SQL insert statements is pretty much trivial.
